Dozens of demonstrators gathered at Trump Tower in New York City on Thursday, staging a protest demanding the release of Mahmoud Khalil, an anti-Israel activist who faces deportation following his arrest last weekend.

The crowd, which reportedly included Jewish protesters, filled the space with chants while displaying placards with messages such as “Free Mahmoud, Free Palestine” and “Fight Nazis Not Students.” Among the signs, some read “Jews Say Do Not Comply.”

The demonstrators shared their message on X, stating: “As Jews, we are taking over the Trump Tower to register our mass refusal. We will not stand by as this fascist regime attempts to criminalize Palestinians and all those calling for an end to the Israeli government’s US-funded genocide of the Palestinian people. And we will never stop fighting for a free Palestine. If you come for one, you face us all. Free Mahmoud, free Palestine!”

Among the organizations behind the demonstration was Jewish Voice for Peace, a group known for its controversial history of terrorist sympathies.

Khalil, who was born in Syria and resides in the U.S. using an Algerian passport, learned during his Saturday arrest that his Green Card would be revoked, leading to his deportation. Before his arrest, he had attended Columbia University and reportedly played a significant role in organizing anti-Israel demonstrations at various educational institutions, including Columbia and Barnard.

Despite attempts by a liberal New York judge to prevent Khalil’s deportation, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the administration’s decision on Wednesday, emphasizing that the action was unrelated to free speech concerns.
