A Russian drone assault on Zaporizhzhia resulted in three fatalities and twelve injuries on Friday night, according to Ukrainian officials, despite a recently established limited ceasefire agreement.
Local police confirmed that twelve drones targeted Zaporizhzhia. Regional administrator Ivan Fedorov reported significant damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and public facilities, with emergency responders documented searching through debris for survivors.
The attack occurred shortly after Wednesday’s trilateral agreement on a limited ceasefire, brokered through conversations between U.S. President Donald Trump and the warring nations’ leaders. However, the scope of the agreement remains unclear.

Significant discrepancies exist between the parties’ interpretations of the ceasefire terms. The White House’s broad interpretation encompasses both energy and infrastructure protection, while Moscow’s view focuses specifically on energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his desire to extend protection to railway systems and ports.
The tragedy in Zaporizhzhia claimed three family members, with rescue workers recovering the daughter and father’s remains from the rubble. Medical professionals fought unsuccessfully for over ten hours to save the mother’s life, according to Fedorov’s Telegram message.
The overnight assault included 179 drones and decoys launched by Russian forces, as reported by Ukraine’s air force. Their defense systems successfully intercepted 100 drones, while 63 others were disabled through electronic interference.

Additional drone-related fires were reported in the Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions from falling debris. Russian defense officials countered with claims of intercepting 47 Ukrainian drones.
Following Wednesday’s conversation with Trump, Zelenskyy announced that Ukrainian and American representatives will discuss technical aspects of the partial ceasefire during upcoming talks in Saudi Arabia on Monday, with Russian officials scheduled for separate discussions with U.S. delegates.
Zelenskyy expressed openness to Trump’s proposed 30-day complete ceasefire, stating: “We will not be against any format, any steps toward unconditional ceasefire.”
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s prerequisites for a complete ceasefire include halting weapon supplies to Ukraine and suspending their military mobilization – conditions that both Ukraine and Western allies have dismissed.
