Sen. John Barrasso Loses Wife To Brain Cancer

After a two-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer, Sen. John Barrasso’s (R-WY) wife has died. She reportedly died on Wednesday in her Casper home, survived by her husband, daughter and brother.

Barrasso, the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, announced the grave news in a statement, writing, “After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and at home with the Lord.”

“In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bobbi was a leader, fierce advocate for Wyoming, and friend to everyone she met. We miss her dearly. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for your prayers and continued support as we remember her and grieve together,” he added.

The news was followed by an outpour of support from lawmakers across both political aisles. Among them was a statement from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, in which he wrote, “Elaine and I are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Bobbi Barrasso. Our friend and colleague John wore his love for Bobbi on his sleeve. And he was blessed to go through life with someone whose commitment to serving the people of Wyoming rivaled his own.”

“Bobbi’s home state is better for her decades of devoted advocacy for a host of worthy causes. In addition to her tireless work on breast cancer treatment and awareness, Bobbi inspired action in Wyoming and Washington on issues ranging from suicide prevention to historical preservation and support for survivors of child abuse,” McConnell added.

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) also took to X to ask for prayers for the bereaved.

“Please join me in keeping Senator Barrasso and his family in your prayers today as his beloved wife Bobbi has passed away. May her memory be a blessing to all those grieving her loss,” his tweet read.

“My prayers are with my dear friend @SenJohnBarrasso during this heartbreaking time. I pray that he and the entire Barrasso family feel God’s comforting grace as they remember Bobbi and a life well lived,” Sen. Tim Scott tweeted.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) also weighed in, writing, “We are all deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Senator Barrasso’s wife, Bobbi, who was a great friend and encourager to all of us. Laina and I are mourning with the entire Barrasso family and know their faith will see them through these tough times.”

Barasso also received the Democratic side of the Senate, including Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Sen. Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH).
