33 Shot In Violent Weekend In Chicago

Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Chicago reported the shootings of up to 33 people during Easter weekend. Seven of the gunshot victims did not survive their wounds.

According to ABC 7, the first fatal shooting of the weekend happened on Friday with the shooting of a 29-year-old in a parking lot in the 800 block of 87th Street. Police say whoever shot the man was in a silver sedan in the Gresham neighborhood.

Later on Saturday, at 12:20 p.m. a 41-year-old man got fatally shot while sitting in a home on South Elizabeth Street. While he was taken to a hospital in critical condition for treatment for multiple gunshot wounds, he passed away.

Police are still investigating the case and looking into the suspect. They, however, believe that the perp is someone who knew the man.

About 11 hours after the 41-year-old’s shooting, a 33-year-old man was shot in the 3700 block of West Roosevelt Road in the Homan Square neighborhood. The shooting, which occurred just before 11:20 p.m., happened as the man was pumping gas. A while Infiniti had pulled up to him and three people from the vehicle got out and shot the man nine times.

A 31-year-old woman was in the victim’s vehicle and had been shot in her shoulder. The man managed to drive to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he and the female passenger are in critical condition.

Twenty-one of those shootings reportedly occurred between 8 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. on Easter Sunday, with a large amount of it happening on the city’s South and West Sides.

On Sunday, five females were shot at 1 a.m. by an unknown assailant who fired multiple shots toward the group and fled the scene. The victims in that shooting include a 20-year-old, two 19-year-olds, a 17-year-old and a 6-year-old.

The 19-year-old died on the scene after she was shot in the head. The other four victims are in good condition in hospitals.

A few hours later, three people were shot in a vehicle on the city’s South Side at about 4 a.m. The three victims had stopped at a red light when another vehicle pulled up beside them and someone inside shot at them. An 18-year-old man was shot in his shoulder, a 23-year-old woman was shot in her eye and a 30-year-old man was shot in his back.

All three victims are reportedly in critical condition.

Later that Sunday, four people were shot on a sidewalk in the Austin neighborhood by two unknown suspects. In the shooting, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m., one of the four men was shot in the head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Another of the victims, a 25-year-old, was grazed by a bullet in the thigh while another 25-year-old got shot in the ankle. The fourth victim, a 21-year-old, was shot in the groin. All three surviving victims are undergoing treatment at West Suburban Hospital.

Chicago Police have not made any arrests in all the weekend shootings as at the time of this reporting.
