Border smuggler’s business plunges under Trump’s tough rules
Listen To Story Above
The impact of stricter border policies under the current administration has led to a significant decline in illegal border crossings. Following the tightening of asylum restrictions in the final months of Biden’s presidency, the numbers dropped substantially. After Trump’s return to office, the decrease became even more pronounced, with a 35% reduction from December to January.
According to Trump’s border czar, daily crossings have now plummeted to just 229, a stark contrast to the peak of 11,000 during Biden’s tenure. The effects of these policy changes are being felt throughout the migration pipeline, including by those who facilitate unauthorized border crossings.

The owners were charged with 8 USC 1324. This is the same statute Tom Homan has referenced multiple times.

In southern Mexico, a human smuggler who goes by the name Marcos, speaking under conditions of anonymity with his face concealed, shared insights into the situation. While dismissing the presence of troops as “foolishness,” he acknowledged that Trump’s more stringent border enforcement has devastated his operations. His business has experienced an approximately 80% decline since the new administration took office.
In response to these challenging circumstances, Marcos indicated that he might need to increase his rates to compensate for the reduced volume of crossings.
