During a recent appearance on NewsNation’s “Cuomo,” Democratic Representative Brad Sherman of California addressed concerns about the state’s Medicaid deficit, maintaining an optimistic outlook while acknowledging future challenges.
Sherman emphasized that California’s financial health remains stable, though he noted potential long-term implications from recent market conditions. The state’s heavy reliance on capital gains tax revenue from wealthy residents means that stock market downturns could impact California’s fiscal situation over the next decade.
Dem Rep. Sherman on CA Medicaid Shortfall: We’re ‘Fine’, Have to Give Medicaid to Illegals So ‘We All Don’t Get’ Sick. Give money so we all don't all go broke. Give them Sanctuary so we all don't go to Jail. He's making Cents. pic.twitter.com/gZPso1C8t2

Addressing the controversial topic of healthcare for undocumented immigrants, Sherman defended the state’s approach from a public health perspective. “You cannot treat a family by only treating some family members. If you don’t treat COVID in a woman without documents, then our children who are U.S. citizens are going to get COVID, and that’s going to be much, much worse. To paint this idea that the state of California is going down the tubes and it’s undocumented immigrants that are the reason is simply absurd. California’s going to do fine. And we’re going to make sure that the people who live in California [are] healthy.”
Gavin Newsom has driven Medicaid to insolvency by giving full coverage to all illegal immigrants. Meanwhile, our legal residents can't get a doctor's appointment because the system is so strained.

The congressman also clarified misconceptions about California’s Medicaid program, known as Medi-Cal. “Also, it’s absolutely wrong to say that every undocumented immigrant gets Medicaid or Medi-Cal, as we call it in California. The rules for eligibility do not say, well, if you’re here illegally, you get special treatment. But we do make sure that the people who live in the city of Los Angeles have the basic health care that they need so that we all don’t get infectious diseases.”
