Former Bill Clinton Reveals Harris’ Senseless Move
Former Bill Clinton adviser Mark Penn criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ upcoming visit to the southern border as a politically unwise move.

This is stupid on her part but great for us because she is going to draw attenting to the mess she made and ignored for 4yrs. https://t.co/ChegDmjtSt #gatewaypundit via…— Jerone Davison for Congress #AZCD4 (@Jerone4Congress) September 24, 2024
According to reports from The New York Times, Harris is set to visit the border during her trip to Arizona on Friday. On “America’s Newsroom,” Penn argued that highlighting the border issue plays into the hands of former President Donald Trump.
“I think that’s the last thing she should do. She is trying to avoid the issue of the border as much as possible. She’s actually gaining steam by pushing the economic issue and bringing that to the fore, and she’s put out a few economic plans that have been more or less unchallenged,” Penn said. “I don’t think her going to the border makes any sense at all. Frankly, that plays right into Donald Trump, who wants to make the border the number one issue.”

Harris has only visited the southern border once since taking office, traveling to El Paso, Texas, in June 2021 after facing significant pressure. During her vice presidency, there have been over 10 million migrant encounters, according to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol data.
President Joe Biden appointed Harris to lead efforts addressing the border crisis in early 2021, tasking her with mitigating the root causes of irregular migration from Central America. However, her office soon began to distance her from this role, and media outlets have worked to shift perceptions of her responsibilities since she announced her presidential campaign on July 21.
At a recent forum hosted by Oprah Winfrey, Harris struggled to provide a clear answer on illegal immigration, discussing her background as California’s attorney general and the failure of a bipartisan border bill before ultimately stating, “I will make sure that bill gets to my desk and I will sign it into law.”
In a New York Times/Siena College poll released Monday, voters in key sunbelt states like Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina indicated they trust Trump more than Harris to handle immigration, with Trump leading 54% to 43% on this critical issue.
