Kamala Harris Sees 8-Point Favorability Increase in Poll, Still Below 50% Approval
HARRIS Gains FAVORABILITY, Approval Lags
Following President Biden’s withdrawal from the campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris’s public popularity rating increased by over eight points, according to a recent poll.
According to an ABC News/Ipsos poll, Harris’ favorability rating currently stands at 43 percent to 42 percent favorable to unfavorable. That same poll from last Sunday gave her a favorable to unfavorable rating of 35 percent to 46 percent.
Independent voters, who now support her 44 percent to 40 percent, appear to be the main force behind this improved prognosis. In the poll conducted last week, those voters were split 28 percent in favor and 47 percent against.
In comparison to the Trump v. Biden contest, polls across the board have typically indicated a tightening of the race between the presumed Democratic nominee and former President Donald Trump, 78. However, it’s still early.
Trump’s favorability rating, however, declined and is currently 36 percent favorable to 52 percent unfavorable. In the poll from last week, it was previously 40 percent favorable to 51 percent unfavorable.
In comparison to the previous week, when it was 32 percent favorable to 55 percent unfavorable, Biden’s favorability rating was 37 percent favorable to 50 percent unfavorable.
Following her unexpected rise to prominence as the presumed Democratic presidential contender, Harris’s campaign has experienced a surge in activity.
Her team says that in less than the first week of her ascent, they had raised $200 million in funding.
She still lags behind Trump, according to early polls, but the contest is getting closer. Based on a five-way national polling aggregate by RealClearPolitics, Trump leads Harris, 59, by 1.8 percentage points.
Additionally, favorability ratings for Harris’ possible running mates were measured by the ABCNews/Ipsos survey.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear scored 13 percent favorable to 9 percent unfavorable, with 77 percent having no opinion or unsure; California Gov. Gavin Newson (21 percent, 33 percent, 45 percent), Josh Shapiro (17 percent, 13 percent, 68 percent), Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (20 percent, 21 percent, 57 percent), North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (7 percent, 8 percent, 84 percent), Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly (22 percent, 12 percent, 65 percent) and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (6 percent, 7 percent, 86 percent).
With fewer than two weeks to go before the Democrats’ virtual roll call to formally declare Harris their nominee for president, Harris is anticipated to make her decision.
In contrast, 24 percent of voters rated Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, favorably, 39 percent unfavorably, with 36 percent expressing no view or saying they don’t know enough about him.
Given that Vance is less well-known than the 45th president, the recently relaunched Harris for President campaign has targeted him in an attempt to damage his reputation in the public eye and use him as a political weapon against Trump.
1,200 adults nationwide were sampled for the ABC News/Ipsos survey between July 26 and July 27, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points for the entire sample.
