Kevin Costner recently expressed strong support for Liz Cheney, praising her outspoken criticism of President-elect Donald Trump and her willingness to label him as “unstable,” “depraved,” and “cruel.”

During a live town-hall segment on SiriusXM’s “The Michael Smerconish Program,” the former Yellowstone actor emphasized the importance of genuine public service over personal gain, stating, “I expect people in government to do the right thing. Public service is about public service. It’s not about your career. It’s not about your ego. Your four years is your four years.”

While acknowledging his desire for popularity in his work, Costner emphasized that moral principles take precedence. He praised Cheney’s courage, declaring, “I’m very proud of Liz Cheney. I found a person completely at odds with one side willing to stand up. We should applaud her. We should protect her.”

Costner passionately defended Cheney against threats, drawing parallels to Revolutionary War heroes. He asserted, “This woman should never be threatened and neither should anybody that stands up in America, because we admire the people of the Revolutionary War that stood up.”

The actor’s comments came amid heightened tensions between Cheney and Trump. The former president had questioned Cheney’s understanding of war’s reality, suggesting, “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK. Let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face.”

Costner, who previously supported Pete Buttigieg in the 2020 Democratic primary, demonstrated his commitment to Cheney by wearing a shirt declaring “I’m for Liz Cheney” during the 2022 midterm elections. He reiterated his support, emphasizing the importance of protecting those who take principled stands in American politics.
