During a Monday appearance, retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark endorsed President Donald Trump’s decision to conduct weekend airstrikes in Yemen, calling it an appropriate response to Iran-backed Houthi attacks on container ships.
Clark emphasized Iran’s pivotal role in the Houthi attacks on international vessels, noting their provision of technical support, intelligence, and weaponry from the beginning. He explained that Iran has leveraged these attacks as part of their resistance strategy against both Israel and the United States, effectively disrupting international commerce through the Red Sea in violation of international law.

When questioned about the Biden administration’s handling of the situation, Clark criticized the previous approach’s ineffectiveness. He disputed the administration’s claims of successful diplomatic solutions and limited military engagement, arguing that achieving dominance through escalation was necessary in this instance. Clark expressed agreement with National Security Adviser Mike Waltz’s assessment of the situation.
Waltz had stated on Sunday that the U.S. airstrikes targeted Houthi leadership while maintaining focus on Iran’s accountability, describing it as a sustained campaign to restore global trade routes.

This is an incredibly nice gesture towards Europe.
Imagine that European navies were unable to protect shipping towards Europe for 2+ years.

Regarding future military actions, Clark suggested implementing additional strikes in Yemen to gauge the response. He indicated that if no further hostile actions occurred following these strikes, the mission could be considered successful. Clark acknowledged reports of unsuccessful ballistic missile attacks against U.S. aircraft carriers, recommending continued military pressure if necessary.
Clark concluded by outlining potential escalation measures, suggesting targeting Iranian ports along the Arabian Sea and Gulf where weapons shipments originate. He emphasized the importance of ensuring Iran faces consequences for its actions, noting that continued escalation could jeopardize Iran’s nuclear leverage.
