High-Profile Arrests Made During a Series of Raids at the Mexican Border

Mexican BORDER RAIDS

A series of raids in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas that also produced several high-profile arrests, rocked one of the main groups of the Gulf Cartel. One particular Gulf Cartel group has managed to avoid detection by federal and state police for nearly a year due to widespread corruption in Mexico. However, it appears that there has been a breakdown in communication between the two parties in recent weeks, as evidenced by many government operations and targeted attacks by cartel gunmen.

One of the main operations took place in Tampico, Tamaulipas, during the weekend. Federal officials detained Antonio Guadalupe Perez Dominguez, the commander of the top Escorpiones and Ciclones gang, as per a written statement issued by the Secretaria de Seguridad y Proteccion Ciudadana (SSCP). The Secretaria de Seguridad y Proteccion Ciudadana is the new name for the federal police in Mexico.

The border city of Matamoros is home to the Escorpiones, one of the two main factions of the Gulf Cartel. The cartel group has been at war over lucrative drug and people smuggling routes into Texas for more than a year. In recent weeks, the Escorpiones had been deeply divided by internal conflicts, with multiple senior commanders betraying one another. The conflicts were profitable for their rival Gulf Cartel factions.

After Perez Dominguez was captured, the authorities flew him to Mexico City right away. Authorities brought him to the federal prison Altiplano, which is situated in the town of Almoloya de Juarez in the Mexican state of Mexico. He is accused of federal organized crime in addition to drug and weapon-related offenses.

Since the initial raid, authorities in the border city of Matamoros have allegedly carried out seven further raids on stash houses under the control of the Gulf Cartel. During the searches, the authorities seized numerous drug loads, firearms, and three cartel operators. Three individuals have been recognized as follows:

El Dany, also known as Daniel Isidoro N, is a lieutenant in the Gulf Cartel’s Escorpiones branch.

Leonardo Daniel “N,” also known as “El Pepino,” is thought to be in command of the city’s video monitoring centers and is also in charge of communications.

Authorities have designated Perla Guadalupe “N,” also known as “La Cunada,” as a financial operative for the Gulf Cartel.
