In a significant announcement shared on Truth Social, President-Elect Donald Trump declared that Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo would not be part of his incoming administration.
Trump expressed gratitude for their previous service, stating: “I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation. I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In response, Haley, who had competed against Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary and garnered support from Never Trumpers, acknowledged the announcement. She stated: “I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations. I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years.”
The decision came amid speculation about potential roles for both former officials. Fox News had previously suggested Pompeo might return to lead the defense agency, while CNN’s Maggie Haberman noted: “Pompeo was widely seen as knowing how to manage Trump.”
Trump supporters had recently voiced opposition to their inclusion in the future administration, particularly following Fox News’ report about Pompeo’s possible consideration.

The announcement follows Pompeo’s previous criticisms of Trump, where he had stated: “That’s inconsistent with protecting America’s soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.” He had also criticized Trump’s handling of classified documents, saying: “classified documents where he shouldn’t have had them and then when given the opportunity to return them, he chose not to do that for whatever reason.”
