Letitia James Threatens To Seize Trump’s Assets

New York Attorney General Letitia James said that she is ready to seize former President Donald Trump’s properties in New York if he fails to pay the over $350 million fine issued to him in his civil fraud case.

Speaking with ABC News, she threatened to take over Trump’s assets if he does not come up with the money to cover the fine.

“If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets. We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I look at 40 Wall Street each and every day,” he said.

40 Wall Street is the location of the Trump Building, which is a 72-story building with 1.3 square million feet of office space.

The huge fine was issued to Trump last Friday by New York Judge Arthur Engoron who ruled that the former president and his co-defendants were guilty of the charges of “persistent and repeated fraud,” “falsifying business records,” “issuing false financial statements,” “conspiracy to falsify false financial statements,” “insurance fraud,” and “conspiracy to commit insurance fraud” brought against them by James.

In addition to the fine, Trump was barred from doing business in New York for three years and his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. were similarly prohibited from business in New York for two years. They were also each fined $4 million.

After the ruling, James expressed satisfaction, saying, “Today, justice has been served. Today, we proved that no one is above the law. No matter how rich, powerful or politically connected you are. The scale and the scope of Donald Trump’s fraud is staggering and so too is his ego. And his belief that the rules do not apply to him. Today, we are holding Donald Trump accountable.”

The GOP front runner has already vowed to appeal the ruling, as his attorney Christopher Kise said that the judge “ignored the law, ignored the facts, and simply signed off on the Attorney General’s manifestly unjust political crusade against the front-running candidate for President of the United States.”
