The Left Won the NYC Primary, Leaving GOP Rep Brandon Williams VULNERABLE

Dems Eye the House Winning NYC Primary

After winning Tuesday night’s Democratic primary in New York’s 22nd congressional district, state senator John Mannion—a former public school teacher—will take on Republican Rep. Brandon Williams in November.

Democrats are seeing the area as a great pickup chance to reclaim control of the House next year, with the nonpartisan Cook Political Report ranking it as one of the most competitive in the nation.

His triumph comes in spite of recent claims made in an unconfirmed open letter signed by “Concerned Mannion Staff” claiming his New York State Senate office was a toxic workplace with “mistreatment, harassment, and retaliation.” The charges, Mannion told local media CNY, were a “false political attack.”

Central New York communities like Syracuse and Utica are included in Williams’ district.

Democrats see it as a top target since it is one of the 17 House GOP-held districts that President Biden won in 2020.

Williams received just 1.5% of the vote to win his seat in 2022, and since then, bluer regions have been added to the borders of his district via off-year redistricting.

Currently serving his first term as a Republican congressman, the Navy veteran is a member of the committees for science, transportation, and education and the workforce.

Late in January of this year, Williams came out in favor of former President Trump, although in a tepid endorsement that avoided outright praise of the former leader. Though it depends on the Senate’s actions, we anticipate seeing more direct endorsements later this year.

“The Republican nominee for president will be President Trump. We cannot bear four more years of Progressive illusions; we need a Republican in the White House. Our nation is under tremendous strain due to issues like inflation, turmoil at the border, sanctuary towns, fentanyl, cashless bail, crime, and rising energy expenses. And when Trump emerged victorious in the GOP primary in New Hampshire, I have always said that our candidate would have my whole support to turn this nation around,” Williams stated on X.
